The Water Cycle of our Week
How’s your week been? Ours has been VERY busy!
Here is a recap of last week:
On Monday it was World Environment Day. World Environment Day is the United Nations’ day for encouraging the protection of our environment by creating awareness and advocating action. This years theme was “Connecting People to Nature” and the host country was Canada.
On Thursday it was World Oceans Day. World Oceans Day which is a global celebration and collaboration for a better future for our Oceans. This years theme was “Our Oceans, Our Future” and the conservation focus was to encourage solutions for plastic pollution and preventing marine litter to help create a healthier ocean for a better future.
So, to combine these two AMAZING events my school celebrated with ENVIRO DAY. Save the Dugongs was lucky enough to be chosen as the recipient of the funds raised.
The day was held on the Thursday and we had a photo competition, a henna and face painting station, sausage sizzle, fairy floss, and cake stall. All of these were fun and enjoyable, but at the end, what was the most exciting was the amount of signatures we received on the Ban the Bag petition which we are looking forward to sending off.
Ban the Bag Petition
Ooh la la. This petition is something that could change shopping! Did you know that Australians use around 1.5 million new bags a day? That equates to almost 5 billion plastic bags per year! Of these an estimated 3.76 billion bags (20,700 tonnes of plastic) are disposed of in landfill.
Plastics are BAD! By 2050 it is predicted that there will be more plastic than fish our oceans. Let’s start a trend, it’s cool to care!
BAN THE BAG!!!
Will keep you up to date on any news to come,
