World Habitat Day - 2nd October
The purpose of World Habitat Day is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world that we all have the power and the responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns.
National Water Week - 15-21st October
National Water Week provides an opportunity to remind ourselves and teach others that access to clean water is hugely important to every aspect of our lives, and we must do our utmost to protect our water environments and resources, use water wisely and respect its importance in our societies. This year's National Water Week theme is ‘Water – the Heart of our Culture’. This theme encourages young people to explore how water shapes our everyday lives through recreational activities, the natural world and our community values.
National Recycling Week - 13-19th November
In November 1996, Planet Ark founded National Recycling Week to bring a national focus to the environmental benefits of recycling. Now in its 21st year, this established and highly regarded annual campaign continues to educate and stimulate behavior change, by promoting industrial and community recycling initiatives and giving people the tools to minimize waste and manage material resources responsibly at home, work and school.
International Volunteer Day - 5th December
IVD provides volunteer organizations and individual volunteers with the opportunity to raise the public awareness of their contributions to economic and social development at local, national and international levels. Volunteering Australia supports IVD and thanks the over six million Australians who volunteer their time. They encourage the broader community and all volunteer based organizations to get involved with the celebrations in their area.
So those are just some of the main events that will be occurring this second half of the year. Be sure to participate in as many of these events as possible to help make make this world a better place to live in.
